Un-freaking-believable

Just posting randomly to say: I cannot BELIEVE that my newest boy will be one month old soon. CRAZY.

I am really hoping to get the monthly letter thing going with him. I'm really disappointed that I stopped doing it with Diesel. I'm finding it so fun, and helpful, and interesting to look back on his letters now, and compare him to Xander.

Got too much to do to muse on that any more... Be back in a couple of days :)

Quickly...

... before bubba wakes for booby...

Lazy Sunday scrapping. Nice.

Making cupcakes today. The boys will be happy.

I am learning...

OK, so I'm learning that being a mummy to two means taking advantage of every moment. Bloglines while eating breakfast, dressing #2 while #1 eats breakfast, simultaneously cooking dinner and doing the dishes...

So when the two boys both had a long nap AT THE SAME TIME today (and Xander is STILL asleep...) I gave the housework a rude gesture and scrapped instead.

I'm trying to get back into using cardstock again, cos I seriously have a ****load of it. Really feeling like getting stuck into more scrapping tonight, but I really have to get into embroidering a sweet little t-shirt for a friend's little girl who is turning one tomorrow.

But right now, I have to wake my sleepy little boy for a feed so I don't have to go to bed too late tonight...

Inspired

My one and only layout since Xander was born. Inspired by Ali Edwards' words + pictures week on her blog recently. Simply pictures of minutes-old Xander and his birth story (as quick and simple as it was!), a title and a teeny-tiny bit of patterned paper. I like it.

Dying to scrap some more, but finding it a little tricky to find the time!

Xander is doing pretty well. After a tough first couple of nights, he has settled into a nice pattern of four-hourly feeding overnight, which generally means I get two stretches of three hours of sleep. Not too bad for a two week old, I guess! I'm over the 'feeling ridiculously tired' stage, and we are back to our usual routiney type things this week - playgroup and shopping and all. Not finding it too hard getting out with the two of them - my beloved new hug-a-bub carrier helps a lot.

Had a nice quiet Mother's Day. Attempted to get some photos of me and my two boys, but Diesel was tired and
over it, and Xander was screaming. Here's my favourites:

And, one of my second boy looking very cute:

I seem to be a bit obsessed with black and white photos at the minute. They cover all sorts of photography sins, methinks!

And now I'm off to cook dinner while one is asleep and the other is having daddy time in the boy's shed!

It happened!

I had seriously started doubting whether this bubba was ever going to come out, but finally, on May 2, at 40+3 weeks, Xander Levi made his debut!

I had no warning signs at all. The day before (Thursday) I had my 40 week appointment, then headed to the health shop to get some clary sage essential oil which is supposed to assist in inducing labour. I had a nice hot bath with the oil that night, and sniffed it occasionally too (can't hurt, right?)

Friday morning I woke early, got up for a wee, and noticed that I had a slightly painful braxton hicks contraction when I stood up. Went back to bed, and had a couple more. Rog left for work at 6.30am and I told
him to make sure his phone was on all day as I was having some mild contractions. After a two day ordeal with Diesel's birth and a good 20 hours of established labour, I didn't think we were going to have to worry too much about hurrying this time!

The contractions mostly fizzled out once I got up, but I did have a show when I went to the toilet. Figured I should keep moving to try to get things started again, so me and Diesel headed for the shops to meet my mum for a birthday coffee (Mum's birthday is May 2). Every time I stood from sitting I had a mild contraction, and after a little while they started coming when I was still too. They weren't painful, just uncomfortable. Saw my
best mate at the shops and sat talking with her for a bit too.

Walking through the shopping centre with my mum after coffee, I had a couple of contractions where I had to stop and breathe. Mum started getting a little worried - her second baby arrived VERY quickly, and I think she was worried I was going to drop the baby where I stood. I sat outside a shop while she grabbed some th
ings for me, and rang Rog to tell him to maybe have an early day. A few minutes and a couple of contractions later, I rang him back to suggest that he should leave now... just in case...

My mum wouldn't let me drive home, so my dad met us at the shops and drove my car home for me, with my mum following. We left the shops at about 11am. On the 20 minute trip home, I had four or five painful contractions. Once home, we started timing them, and they were four minutes apart, lasting for a minute and a half each. My labour with Diesel was all over the place, and never got to that point. Rog got home and we ordered him into the shower. I was starting to have to cross my legs with each contraction as it felt like the baby was going to fall out. We rang the birth centre and they encouraged us to stay at home until we felt the contractions were unmanageable. One contraction later I made Rog ring them back and tell them we were on our way! Unfortunately, the birth centre was full, so we were redirected to the labour wards.

Rog parked in emergency and ran me up to the labour wards in a wheelchair. Once I was settled in the room -
on my knees with my head on the bed - he left to park the car. It was now just after 1pm. The midwife came in to keep me company and I told her that I was maybe feeling like I needed to push. She quietly remarked that she hoped Rog would be quick as she thought I might be having a baby...

Rog got back and I got up on the bed, again on my knees. The nurse asked if I wanted to have an internal to check how things were going. I agreed and with difficulty, got onto my back. She had a feel (OUCH) and
announced that the waters were bulging and were the only thing stopping the baby being born now! She asked if we'd like her to break the waters, and I agreed... So, the waters flowed! He he. And then the baby was there - crowned straight away, and both Rog and Jan commented on how much hair he had!!

After a couple of huge pushes, it was clear that I was going to need a little help - he was presenting forehead first making his head just a bit too big. A quick snip (again - ouch, ouch, ouch) and a couple more big pushes,
and my big baby boy slid out and was placed in my arms. It was 1.28pm - just less than half an hour after we arrived at hospital.

Rog saw that he was a boy straight away, but I had secretly know since 20 weeks, when I saw a certain little appendage accidentally on the ultrasound... I had lots of cuddles while I had LOTS of stitches, and then we were pretty much left alone to meet our bubba. I felt pretty great - a two hour labour with 15 minutes of pushing was so much less exhausting than 20 hours of labour!! Xander had a feed - fed brilliantly straight away! I had a shower, got dressed, and was sitting up in the lounge chairs when my parents brought Diesel in to meet his new baby brother.

Diesel was completely over-tired, since this whole thing happened right over his nap time, and was completely disinterested in Xander. We were transferred to the birth centre soon after, and once we were in the room, Diesel started to show some interest - even getting up to smell, cuddle and kiss Xander.

Later on, Xander was weighed and measured - 4.19kg (9lb 4oz), 52.5cm long with a 36cm head circumference. Quite a big boy, but he still looks so little and precious! We had a long night of feeding and spewing and crying, but overall everything was great, and I got to go home before lunch the next day, just before Xander turned 24 hours old.

Since then, things have been great! We haven't had a lot of sleep, but he seems to be settling in a little better today, so hopefully we will have some better luck tonight. We've been completely spoilt with presents. Rog has taken the week off, and is on Diesel duty! We are so in love with our little bubba, and are feeling so blessed to be mummy and daddy to two little boys!

Just gotta...

Have to quickly jot down some of the funny things Diesel is saying at the moment. His speech is coming along pretty well, and he's a regular little chatterbox, but some words are particularly funny:
  • dip-dop = helicopter (and he can spot one from a mile!)
  • melmo = Elmo (and every other Sesame Street character)
  • bee-bee = TV
  • nut-nut = donut (this is better than no-nuts which he was saying last week...)
  • moh-mut = Thomas the Tank Engine
  • boop-boop = dog (woof-woof)
  • mow = cat
  • bee, bore, BIVE = three, four, five
  • me-me = excuse me (which he says after he burps)
He also blows every time we say wind and then puts his finger to his mouth and says 'shhhh'. One of his Little Golden Books (Book of Sounds, or something like that) has the wind going 'whhhhhh' and quiet going 'shhhhh' on the same page so they obviously must always go together... Clever sod.

Here's my 36 week belly too:
I am pretty ready for this baby to arrive! Am 37+3 weeks now, so am pretty confident that baby would be FINE being born any time now! Feeling very drained, and struggling to do my normal stuff during the day, let alone chase a toddler and clear out our back room. Still... it's not so bad... Could be much worse, and I was just thinking last night how nice it is to have bubba all tucked up inside, safe and warm and all MINE! Once it comes out I have to share!!

That's all for now... have a little bit of scrapping to share but will save that for later...

And...

A 28 week belly shot. Very belated, since I'm now 36 weeks... Will take another in the next few days...

Help me...

I'm planning to burn some CDs for while I'm in labour. It's something I meant to do last time, and never got around to it. Anyways, I'm after your ideas for great songs to labour to! Just to make it hard, I pretty much don't like most mainstream music - I'm a bit of an indie, alternative girl. For example:
  • 'Across the Universe' - Rufus Wainwright (Beatles cover)
  • 'Yellow Ledbetter' - Pearl Jam
  • 'Space They Cannot Touch' - Kate Miller-Heidke
  • 'Blowers Daughter' - Damien Rice
  • 'Gorecki' - Lamb
So yeah, any help would be great!

My little cutie and the roast

My little boy is getting so big! Look!

And here's some pics of his first easter egg trail (a tradition in our family - a trail of little eggs leading to the big eggs.) Unfortunately, Easter bunny forgot to set the trail up before Diesel got up (secondary to a maggot infestation - ewwwwwwwwwww), so we had to re-enact the whole getting out of bed deal. He didn't seem to mind. I almost forgot to take photos, which is why they are so bad - I didn't reset my ISO or white balance and it's all up the crap!

I cooked a roast tonight. Every time I cook a roast I think of the first roast I ever cooked. It must have been early on after we were married, and living in our cute little unit. I bought a beef roast and all the trimmings, and ended up in tears in the middle of the kitchen. The meat was under-cooked, the potatoes were soggy, the gravy was lumpy and the vegies were cold. Rog managed to compliment it, bless him.

These days, I'm a bit of a pro at the old roast, if I do say so myself. Lamb is my specialty, but I've cooked a couple of great chickens lately too. After years of practice, I can cook the meat just right, get the potatoes and pumpkin lovely and golden and crispy, make killer gravy and have everything ready at the same time and on the table by 6pm. Oh the triumphs of a domestic goddess.

I haven't cooked a beef roast since though. Just a little story for a Thursday... just because.

Hello? Hello?

Is anyone still there???

Oh my... haven't I been one VERY slack blogger? In fact, I was considering letting this go altogether, but lately have been feeling life slipping by very quickly, and would love to make an effort to record more of our 'every day'. We'll see how that goes... LOL.

Haven't got a whole lot of time right now as D is running around and doesn't like letting me sit here! I'll have to update with belly shots and scrapping and stuff another time... But briefly:
  • Only five weeks to go of this pregnancy (if I go to term!) I can't believe how fast it has gone, and I'm begging these five weeks to go slow cos we have way too much to do!
  • I'm feeling great! This pregnancy has been a little easier than the last, and although I'm sore and sleepless, I think I'm doing better. And I've put on WAY less weight this time! Hallelujah for that!
  • I'm drinking way too much coffee!
  • Rog's best mate got married a few weeks ago and I spend my first ever night away from Diesel. We both coped brilliantly.
  • My big scrapping fest ended - been feeling much less motivated as I get bigger, but still managing the occasional page. Had Crop for Kids a couple of weeks ago and managed to get three pages done... plus caught up with some fab scrapping friends.
  • In the middle of a BIG clear out as we make way for this baby - our study/spare/junk room will become Diesel's room and it is a HUGE job. I spent Easter weekend going through 10 years worth of Roger's paperwork. It's all ready to be chucked into archive boxes now. Phew. Next is my 10 years worth of formal dresses, then the craft desk (eek!)
  • Still doing DT stuff for Kiti Q - and you MUST check out the adorable new KI Memories lace cardstock they have in. So beautiful...
  • Diesel is talking! Seems like he picks up a new word every day at the moment. Still just single words, but I can see it's about to explode and he'll never stop chatting! I just melt every time he says 'mumma'. He says 'baby' and rubs my tummy too, but I fear that he has no idea that there is an actual baby in there that is going to turn his world upside-down!
  • Looking forward to a visit from my precious Nat! She is passing through Melbourne just after my due date, so I am really praying that bubs makes an on-time and hassle-free appearance so I can catch up with her. The last time we met we were both pregnant with our little boys, and this time we will have five kids between us! Amazing what a difference a couple of years can make!
I have some layouts scanned in, so to save you from a boring picture-free post, here are a couple:

Holy Moly!

I made the Scrap In Style catwalk again! With this layout:

Feeling quite humbled.

Another two acceptances yesterday too. Just loving scrapping again. Thought it was all over a while ago, but now I am making the most of this surge of scrappiness before baby arrives and I have no time again!

Sleepless

I'm generally in bed by 9.30pm. That's pretty early, but not so bad when you consider that Roger's alarm goes off at 5.30am. Tonight I am still awake at 11.20pm. That's not unusual either, but I usually stick it out in bed until I finally fall asleep. Tonight, I was tossing and turning with my old friend 'Restless Legs Syndrome'. I've gotten it on and off for as long as I can remember. It's much worse when I'm pregnant. And after doing a bit of googling tonight, I discover that anaemia can make it worse. Well, duh... I'm anaemic. So I'll be off to the chemist (again) tomorrow for some iron supplements. Add to that a VERY sore wisdom tooth, and I'm a bit of a miserable one tonight!

I was watching the tennis, but Roddick is completely doing over his opponent and it wasn't much fun. Wish I could scrap, but I'm a bit too sleepy for that. So I'm blogging and browsing and generally wasting time.

Here's another belly pic. This was at 24 weeks.

This baby is feeling HUGE right now. Huge and strong and big and ready to be born!! But I know it's not, and will quite happy to meet it in 10+ weeks...

Had another acceptance from SC today. That's four acceptances in about three weeks. I'm stoked! And I finally cracked SC! Still scrapping up a storm (probably because my sewing machine is broken!) and loving it. Have another girly scrappy night booked for Friday, so hopefully will feel inspired then.

K, it's after midnight now, so I should try to get some sleepies! Legs are feeling better (the vegemite and salada must have helped!!) Nighty-nights!

Scrappy catch up

Been doing lots of scrapping lately, although Diesel has learnt how to climb onto the dining table, so I have to clean up between each session. Here's some stuff - sorry about the poor quality but they've all been reduced for subbing!

Fun, fun! I'm loving it! Been on a massive cleaning binge too, and my house is looking lovely. Next job is to sort out all Roger's business paperwork. Blah. But right now must meal plan and write a shopping list for this week before I sort out tonight's dinner. Oh, the life of a domestic goddess ;o)

New

Happy 2008 all! I am so glad that's over! Christmas is great and all, but it's so nice to be back in routine, and not have to wear combat gear to the shops.

Christmas was lovely. We all got super spoilt, and had a great day with family. Diesel still isn't quite old enough to anticipate Christmas, but he sure got in the spirit of all the pressies! He was quite overwhelmed by it all, really.

It was gorgeous watching the cousins play - they don't have a chance very often, and they just love it when they get together. Oh, and I don't know if you can see in the picture, but when Diesel picks up a pen, he holds it *properly*! I don't know where he learnt that from, but it's just precious!

NYE was a quiet one. We got together with two other couples and played SingStar all night (OK, so not really quiet...) It was HOT, and Diesel didn't really fancy sleeping in the laundry in a portacot, so he joined in the fun for a while, but he eventually passed out exhausted, and we headed home at 3am. Needless to say, we were all quite tired the next day.

Diesel news: he is totally cute. Learning new things every day. Builds with blocks, 'reads' books, eats breakfast at his new table and chairs, starting to run, sings, chatters all day, lies down for me to change his nappy, tells
me when he needs a nap, says 'bye bye' and 'nanna' and 'pa' and 'nigh-nigh'. Eats continuously. Loves apples. And grapes. Not so keen on vegetables. Climbs our back steps and the backyard like a mountain goat. Learning to throw RIPPER tantrums.

Baby news: healthy, strong and growing bigger all the time! This is my belly at 21 weeks (now at 24), but it has grown a lot since then! I definitely can't fit into those pants now!

So, 2008 is going to be a big one for us. New baby in four months, Roger's business is on the grow (he got his builder's licence, and we are now officially a 'company'), so I am going to be one busy little mumma. And in keeping with that, my 'one little word' for this year is ORGANISE. My head is spinning with all the things I need to do to fit a new baby and bigger business into this small house! I have sorted out a new housework routine, and my house is lovely and clean. Just gotta keep it that way! And a trip to Ikea is on the cards too!

I don't really like resolutions, but there are many things I intend to achieve this year:
  • avoid using the Visa, and pay it off every month
  • learn to use MYOB and get Roger's business stuff in order
  • scrap more, and use my yummy new stuff as I get it rather than keeping it for that 'special' layout!
  • eat more good quality chocolate
I'm definitely going to need company with that last one... Who's with me?

K, the boy's been asleep for almost 3 hours, so I'm pretty sure my 'me' time is almost up! Off to do some more scrapping if this baby will stop kicking me in the hoo-ha. Ouch.

Loveland

Had another scrappy night with the girls last night. I was feeling terribly unmotivated - I think the heat really knocked me out yesterday. But, I managed to get two pages done. I'm really noticing my pages getting really simple lately. They'll probably swing the other way in a month or two... funny how that happens.

I played some more with my DT kit from kitiq - lots of Scenic Route Loveland. I think it's meant to be a Valentine's type range, but it's so versatile. I've done a girly page and a Christmas page so far. And I am seriously in love with those Thickers - can you tell? They are vinyl, and feel really nice! Unfortunately, they don't stick, which seems to be a problem with Thickers in general, but they're so yummy that I'll overlook that small fault!

Anyways... the layouts:

Not much else been happening. Still putting off Christmas shopping. Been doing some Christmas baking which is much more fun (but much more fattening, unfortunately). Due to take another belly shot - 20 weeks down now! We have our 20 week scan next week and we are NOT finding out the sex... I kinda almost want to, but that 'finding out' moment with Diesel when he was born was so wonderful, that I'm looking forward to it again. So don't ask. LOL.

And I'm currently being kicked in the cervix, which is a rather eye-watering experience.

Have to rush off and finish a circle journal which is VERY overdue!!

Scrappy stuff

Well... just when I think my scrapping has come to a standstill (you know the times... when you're mojo just *disappears*) all sorts of exciting scrappy stuff happens... exciting for me, anyhow.

Firstly, I have two class kits available for purchase at Kiti Q. My travel journal called 'Go Away' and a calendar kit just in time for last minute Christmas gifts. They come with all the supplies you need and full illustrated instructions for the whole project.

Kell popped over yesterday with this month's DT kit too. It is DIVINE. New Scenic Route 'Loveland' papers and lots of the new KI Memories lace cardstock. Very pretty. Also some AC thickers which I am in love with. Rog went out last night (and is not feeling so good this morning as a result), so I had a chance to play - and made this:

So pink! I love it for a change!

And lastly, after having some computer issues for a couple of days (all fixed now - yay), I opened my email this morning to an acceptance! I don't sub a lot, but have been shooting off some every now and then. I obviously don't scrap to get published, but it is nice to have something accepted - someone loves what I do ;o)

Now... back to figuring out how I'm going to do ALL of my Christmas shopping online this year...
Happy weekend all :o)

Tuesday, December 04, 2007

And then...

Just a couple of layouts I've done recently. This one I just finished, in fact. It was a challenge for Scrapniques, except I forgot one of the criteria, so stuffed it up. Oh well!

And this one was another for kiti q. I seriously think I could scrap with Love Elsie 'Jack and Abby' for the rest of my life and never get sick of it. I uploaded it to my Scrap in Style folio (trying to keep at least one online folio up to date!) and it got chosen to be featured on their 'catwalk' that week! I was very surprised, but very excited.

OK, enough... I really have to cook dinner now!

December post

Well, it seems that I blog once a month now. Tee hee. I really should make more of an effort. And I seriously need to update this place. Header, links etc... Another thing for the to-do list.

So, here's what's going on:
  • I'm 18 weeks pregnant. I know. How did that happen? I mean, I *know* how it happened, but how did it go so fast already?! Crazy, crazy. Feeling pretty good, and not fitting into any of my pants without leaving the top button undone. Classy. Here's my 16 week belly. It's significantly bigger now...
  • Diesel is growing bigger all the time. Seriously bigger. He's put on 2 kilo in 3 months. He's running around, putting my shoes on (so cute! Daddy doesn't think so though...), getting up and down stairs, playing on the equipment at the park all by himself, getting an attitude when he doesn't get his way... But he's still SUCH a happy kid, and we get comments everywhere we go. He's so social - even at the park this afternoon, he went straight up to a stranger for a hug. Not sure if that's a good thing or not...
  • We put our Christmas tree up on Saturday. It tends to stay decorated from Diesel-height up - LOL. Have some pics but haven't uploaded yet. I'll get round to it.
  • I have a layout in FK this month! Issue 61, I think. Been a while, and as usual, I hate the layout!
  • Been busy scrapping a calendar for a kit for kiti q. Should be available soon :o) As should my travel journal kit.
  • Busy figuring out how we are going to fit another baby in this house. I need to do a big trip to Ikea, and do some purging. Looking forward to that. Have NO idea where all my scrapping stuff is going to go!
OK, so D is doing some whinging because I'm not paying attention to him, so must go and play for a bit! Oh, and if I don't get back here before then... Merry Christmas :o)

Monday, November 05, 2007

Why, hello there!

Remember me? Tee hee. It's been too long! I don't even know if I can be bothered continuing with my alphabet... maybe another time. Hmmmmm, so what's news? Most of you probably know about this:

What fun! Due in late April/early May. D will be a big brother!!

Not much else has been happening amid first trimester nausea and tiredness. Feeling a lot better now. Have been doing a little scrapping. Should share, hey...

And here are my layouts from this month's DT kit from Kiti Q. Yummy Love Elsie Jack and Abby.

Oh, and that background paper above is Scenic Route Savannah, in case you're confused... I'm so in love with it...

I'm also working on a calendar in gorgeous Urban Lily papers that will hopefully be available as a kit at Kiti Q in time for Christmas.

So that's it... not much of a catch up considering it's been so long, but, well, I've been wasting so much time on freaking Facebook that I don't really have a life any more. And my little boy is keeping me BUSY! He is so funny and into everything now.

Oops, it's getting late... better go and get dinner started! If you pop in to check up on me, leave a comment :o)
